Q: How frequently is the salary data updated?
A: Usually once a year in October for non-represented titles. For represented titles, salary data is updated as bargaining agreements are ratified.

Q: How up-to-date is the data for newly negotiated bargaining unit contracts?
A: As up-to-date as the data provided by Office of the President. After a contract is ratified, typically the salary information is updated in the Title Code System (TCS) within one to two months.

Q: What is the difference between covered and uncovered pay rates?
A: A covered pay rate indicates a rate applicable to “covered” employees (covered by a bargaining agreement); uncovered pay rate indicates a rate applicable to “uncovered” employees (not covered by a bargaining agreement).

Q: Where does the Title and Pay Plan data come from?
A: Office of the President maintains the Title Code System from which we derive our Title and Pay Plan.

Q: Why do some titles have a blue icon linking directly to its classification specifications, while other titles do not?
A: We are working to include links for all titles codes. We hope to have this process completed in the near future. Please contact Human Resources for classification specification information.

Q: Why can't I find the same titles on UCR's Title and Pay Plan as I can on other UCs?
A: While many of the titles are the same throughout the University, there are significant variations (e.g., Medical Centers (MC) have unique title codes that only a MC uses). Some titles are unique to a particular campus and cannot be equated to a position at any other campus.

Q: How can I tell which staff personnel program a title is in: Professional and Support Staff (PSS), Managers and Senior Professionals (MSP) or Senior Management Group (SMG)?
A: Title code numbers for staff titles in the PSS program range from 3000 to 8888. Title code numbers for staff titles in the MSP program range from 0208 to 0687. Title code numbers for staff titles in the SMG program range from 0001 to 0188.

Q: What is a “Personnel Program Code” and how may I use it?
A: There are three personnel program codes: “1,” “2” and “A.” A search for personnel program code “1” would give the user a list of all the all Professional and Support Staff (PSS) titles. A search for personnel program code “2” would give the user a list of all the Senior Management Group (SMG) titles and the Managers and Senior Professionals (MSP) titles. A search for personnel program “A” would give the user a list of all the academic titles.

Q: What is an “Occupational Sub-Group” and how may I use it?
A: The code indicating the subcategory code of the federal occupation code for the job title code (e.g., DA, DB, BF, BG, BH). (Federal occupation code values are the same as the first character of the federal occupation subcategory code. Federal occupation codes are A=officials & managers, B=professionals, C=technicians and sales, D=office & clerical, E=skilled crafts, F=operatives (semi-skilled), G=laborers (unskilled), H=service workers). A user could perform a search on a particular “Occupational Sub-Group” to see all of the titles with similar occupational skill sets.

Q: What does exempt/non-exempt mean?
A: The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes the minimum wage and a maximum workweek beyond which overtime must be paid. The FLSA provides an exemption to certain executive, administrative, professional, and outside sales employees from the minimum wage and overtime requirements, provided they meet certain tests regarding job duties and responsibilities and are compensated "on a salary basis" at not less than specified amounts. Employees who meet the criteria within the exemption tests are defined as “exempt” employees, meaning that they are exempt from the FLSA minimum wage and overtime provisions. Exempt employees do not receive overtime pay. Those employees who are covered by the standards and provisions of the FLSA are referred to as “nonexempt” and are eligible for premium overtime pay.

Q: How can I print the information displayed on my screen?
A: To print the information displayed on your screen, select "File" on your toolbar, then select "Print". You may also click on the printer icon displayed on the toolbar.

Q: How can I transfer information displayed on my screen into a Word document?
A: Use “copy and paste” to transfer an exact image of the T&PP screen into a Word document:
(1) Highlight the items or portion of the screen that you want to copy.
(2) Simultaneously press "Ctrl" and "C" keys (this is a short-cut for the “copy” feature).
(3) Open the Word document to which you want to copy the image.
(4) Place the cursor in the desired space.
(5) Simultaneously press "Ctrl" and "V" keys (the “paste” short-cut).
A copy of your screen will be placed in your Word document as an image. The image can then be resized in the Word document depending on your needs.

Q: How can I transfer information displayed on my screen into an Excel spreadsheet?
A: You may transfer information displayed on the T&PP screen into an Excel document using the copy and paste commands:
(1) Highlight the items or portion of the screen that you want to copy.
(2) Simultaneously press the "Ctrl" and "C" keys (or right-click your mouse and select "Copy").
(3) Open the Excel document which you want to copy the image.
(4) Place the cursor in the desired cell.
(5) Simultaneously press "Ctrl" and "V" keys (or right-click your mouse and select "Paste").
A copy of the highlighted section will be placed in your Excel document. Depending on the type of items that you are copying, you may find that hyperlinks and icons are also copied into your Excel document. To copy only text into your Excel document, you will need to experiment using Excel’s "Paste Special" command.
